Back to Schoooooooool

The first week back from break went very well in the Art Room!! We have been hard at work!!! Here's an update on what each grade is working on...

Kindergarten: The Kindergartners have come back from break to continue working on their puppets. Before break, the students discussed the difference between a sculpture and a painting or drawing. They then began to create their own self-portrait puppet using modeling clay and various other materials. This past week, the students painted their puppets faces. We will be continuing work on the puppets next week.

1st Grade: This past week in 1st grade, the students worked on painting a color wheel. The students learned how to mix the secondary colors by only using the primary colors before we went on break. This past week they used this knowledge to paint a color wheel. These color wheels will be turned into clowns in the weeks to come!

2nd Grade: Before break, the 2nd graders began working on a jungle collage inspired by the artist, Henri Rousseau. We discussed what a collage was, and how to go about creating one. This past week, I demonstrated how to add bushes and leaves to the collages. We will continue working on the collages in the weeks to come.

3rd Grade: This past week the 3rd graders began working on their clay project for the year. The students learned about the artist, Edgar Degas, and viewed and discussed his work, "Little Dancer, Age 14". The students then brainstormed and sketched ideas for their own clay dancer.

4th Grade: This past week the 4th graders received their finished coil pots to take home. They participated in a critique of their work and filled out a self-assessment sheet to reflect on the work they had done.

5th Grade: The 5th graders began a new unit this past week. I showed a power point on Ancient Egyptian Art, and the students began to sketch ideas for a drawing inspired by the unique art they Egyptians did.

Pictures and more information to come!!!
